The New Shero, or should I say “HERo”- HERAdventure
Ayoka Chenzira Ph.D. and Spelman College recently received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to produce an interactive game called, HERAdventure. HER, the star of the science-fiction based game is a black female superhero sent to Earth to take action against the “diminishing auras of Earth’s women”. Gamers serve as “superheroes in training” to assist HER in taking action against issues such as discrimination, eating disorders, depression, and negative self-esteem. HERAdventure will incorporate social media networks such as Facebook and Twitter into the gamer experience. Ayoka hopes this game will serve as a unique platform to demonstrate that social issues affecting women affect the world as a whole and serve as a catalyst for change.
We here at BGS tip our hats or should I say wave our superhero caps to Ayoka and Spelman College for taking on such womens’ issues all the while promoting black female power. We anxiously wait for the release of this project.
HERAdventure is set to be released on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2013.
